M.2 can integrate many functions, including satellite navigation, WiGig, WAN, SSDs, and many more. M.2 is now recognized as the new storage and hardware layout format since August 2013.

For using an M.2 SSD in your gaming device, you will need a motherboard with M.2 slots. Some of the best-used SSDs have an NVMe interface, which encourages more storage devices. The common M.2 SSD sizes are M.2 Type-2280, M.2 Type-2230, and M.2 Type-2242, M.2 Type-2260, M.2 Type-22110.

Three types of M.2

NVMe: NVMe was created for next-generation SSD. It is available with a standard PCLe connection. NVMe SSD is now used across the world. 

SATA: This one uses the AHCI driver and goes to a SATA3.0 port. However, it is slow but highly compatible.

AHCI: It is the slowest option for low-budget motherboards. This is for the traditional operating PCs and laptops.

An SSD has some differences in its connectors. So it is important to buy the right type of SSD for your motherboard. For this, there are three types of configurations. The second is M, where the notch is five pins from the right. Finally, the third one is B&M. it has two notches. The first one is six pins from the left, and the second one is five pins from the left.
